We haven't had any of the issues you mentioned but we haven't done 4 summers worth of regular 10-20 mike bike ride with it either. In our experience this is best suited for the summer weekend afternoon riders. Your advice is spot on if you intend on doing any kind of real mileage on a regular basis. When you get serious about riding your equipment needs to be serious too.<br /><br />My wife is a racer, has done over a dozen century rides and does many cross state rides (ragbrai, bam, bak) and a triathlete. I was a bike messenger in NYC and rode most of my life for fun. Unfortunately, I don't ride anymore. But hey, someone has to drive the SAG vehicle and I like A/C.
